The international arts and culture project Arts from Resistance – From the Underground explores how artistic expression can serve as a powerful form of resistance—past and present, in times of war, censorship, exile, and democratic awakening.
Spanning one year, the project brings together artists, filmmakers, writers, and scholars from Germany, France, and Ukraine to engage in collaborative workshops, public lectures, exhibitions, and film productions. Activities will take place in key cities such as Karlsruhe, Paris, Berlin, Odessa, and Kyiv, with a special focus on local histories, underground art movements, and the power of creative dissent.
The project is coordinated by Filmboard Karlsruhe e. V. and includes a growing network of international partners, such as the Musée de la Résistance in Paris, KinoBerlino in Berlin, as well as the KinoCaen film platform in France.
All project activities are open to professionals and amateurs alike, regardless of age or background. Emphasis is placed on respectful collaboration, shared knowledge, and the development of new artistic perspectives on civil resistance and cultural memory.

Do you love creating films, exploring new equipment, or turning spontaneous ideas into cinematic moments? Then the 16th International KinoKabaret in Berlin-Lichtenberg (September 11–21) is your playground. Over eleven days, filmmakers from around the world will collaborate under time pressure to produce short films—casting on site, crewing up at pitching sessions, and celebrating world premieres at Germany’s oldest cinema, Moviemento. In a spirit of experimentation and without competition or juries, participants bring their own gear, share skills, and transform Berlin into a stage for creative freedom.
KinoKabaret is all about leaving your comfort zone, embracing improvisation, and replacing funding red tape with a DIY ethos. Whether you direct, act, write, edit, or score music—this is your chance to dive into collaborative filmmaking with like-minded creatives. From fiction to documentary to experimental formats, everything is welcome—as long as it’s doable with what you have. Masterclasses and fresh project pitches round out the experience. Registration is open—just pick your form and join the movement!
